I accept a MF 3660 with worn splines on the finish of the drive shaft on the front end where it couples to the pinion. MF wants over $g.00 for a new shaft. The splines are identical to a 540 rpm pto shaft. Has anyone come with a good way to repair these splines? I would assume that the shaft is hardened and most shops that can cutting splines would just build information technology up with regular weld and cutting new splines just they would not be as hard equally the original. I had them repaired one time in this fashion and they only lasted about 4 years. I am putting new bushings in the front end end swivels and then I would like to get things support to spec. Why not accept information technology to a driveshaft shop and merely replace the splined finish?? I might not be familiar enough to know why this wouldn't work but so far its worked on JD and versatile here. If its a solid shaft driveline versus a hollow tube would be the only deal 98indy500

Could it be replaced with a hollow tube or is the clearances to tight?? when ever it comes time to practise things similar this I ever contact Marking Williams enterprises in Louisville CO and see if they can match the splines. They build funny car drive lines and axles etc . I would endeavor them.

But you besides could find a splined terminate cutting and weld and so figure out a fashion to re-enforcee the weld then information technology doesnt chrylstalize the shaft and try that for a $one thousand

Common problem on Masseys. First check your bushings on the pivot for the front axle. They are probable worn causing the drive shaft to work at a angle. Replace them then prepare the rest. The welding up and cutting splines have non been very successful effectually here. Similar you said it doesn't last long. What we do is get a double chain coupler. Weld the original coupler into ane of the sprockets of the coupler. And so the pinion is cut taper , a keyway is cut into it and thread is cut onto the tip for a nut. The other sprocket is cutting to the aforementioned taper equally the pinion, also with a keyway cut into it. The sprocket is slipped onto the tapered pinion with the primal keeping it from turning. So tightened with the nut on the end. Sprockets are held together with the chain and the sleeve/ coupler works just like the original. Sorry for the long post. Ask if I must explain anything, English isn't my first language. Will get pics tomorrow of one we did on a Fiat tractor only final week. Edit - Sorry wrong reply, didn't read the question correctly. Perchance this can exist of help to someone else.

You might attempt one of the epoxy products from Devcon first. We have used it on a splined hydrastat shaft when the pulley came lose and severely damaged both the male and female splines. We where skeptical but the local machine shop was certain information technology would work and information technology never failed in the 20 or and so years we owned it. We have too used it on the splined ends of the steering spindle on two cycle drive John Deeres and information technology has never failed. Clean both pieces really well utilise the mixed epoxy and get together. This stuff makes jb weld look like elmers gum. a4t-1600

After thinking about this a bit-------------the couplers on the trans and the diff might be able to be extended a bit to take hold of splines that aren't wore to get y'all farther until you can observe some other source . If you lot could notice them and weld them on to the existing ones true enough it should grab enough spline to final a off-white amount of fourth dimension rancherman

my  3545  has  pretty much the same type driveshaft as yours,  and  I'm wondering well-nigh a future  'freshening'.

No doubt  the couplers are  worn nearly the same as  what you are seeing on the shaft itself.

How most the splines   on the pinion, and  what's coming out of the  transmission?

I tin can't believe  MF  didn't put a zerk  on those couplers..  just like  seen on a combine terminal drive.

There's  a  Machine shop in Giltner Nebraska (betwixt One thousand.I. and York)   who tin  knock out anything,  and   get it   estrus treated  for  yous too..
